MUNE KUROTSUKI(黒月) blends the practicality of a field watch with the architectural elegance of traditional Japanese design. The name MUNE refers to the ridge of a roof in Japanese architecture—the structural line that defines the apex of a building. In watchmaking, the 12 oclock position likewise marks the starting point of time and the highest point of the dial. This shared symbolism inspired the distinctive index at 12 oclock, shaped to resemble the ridge of a traditional roof. It functions as an orientation marker while introducing an architectural element into the design of the watch. The dial is finished in deep black lacquer, creating a rich sense of depth and a quiet, refined presence. The applied Arabic numeral indices rise prominently from the dial and feature a vertical brushed finish. As light moves across their surfaces, the brushing subtly shifts in tone, further emphasizing the depth of the black lacquer dial. A finely printed minute track circles the outer edge of the dial, with luminous paint applied to every hour marker from 1 through 12. In darkness, this creates a soft ring of light around the dial, enhancing legibility while maintaining the clean aesthetic of the design. The hour and minute hands are sculpted baton-style hands with a subtle raised ridge running through their center. This ridge line echoes the architectural roof ridge that inspired the models name, adding a quiet structural presence to the dial. The luminous counterweight of the seconds hand is shaped to evoke the great roof of Kaminarimon Gate in Asakusa. Extending from it, the body of the seconds hand is finished in a deep crimson tone reminiscent of the gates vermilion pillars—bringing together the architectural relationship between roof and column within a single hand. The case measures 38mm in diameter and 9.5mm thick, with a 46mm lug-to-lug length that ensures a balanced and comfortable fit on the wrist. With 100 meters of water resistance, the watch is equally suited to daily wear and outdoor use.The top of the bezel and the case sides are finished with fine brushing, while the bezel edge and the front of the case are mirror polished. The contrast between these finishes creates depth and subtle dimensionality across the case.Inside is the Japanese-made Miyota 9039 automatic movement, offering dependable performance and durability for everyday wear.
