Known collectively as œThe Dirty Dozen, these were issued to British forces between 1944 and 1945, manufactured by Buren, Cyma, Eterna, Grana, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Lemania, Longines, IWC, Omega, Record, Timor, and Vertex. It is estimated that these manufacturers delivered a total of 150,000 watches to The War Office (now the Ministry of Defence). Although designated a œGeneral Service timepiece, this did not mean that each serviceman was issued with one, the watches were held in unit stores and only issued on an œas needed basis for a particular task and returned to the stores when that task was completed. This reintroduction is a completely new watch, built from scratch and incorporating improvements over the original. It is available only in 36mm diameter, now having a hi-dome sapphire crystal and drilled lugs with shoulderless springbars to allow a greater choice of straps to be fitted. Both versions have a soft iron dial and anti-magnetic cage, giving an anti-magnetic rating of 20,000 A/m (251 Oe). Supplied in a 2- watch travelling case with 24 months guarantee.
