This design was inspired by the aurora borealis and aurora australis — luminous displays created when charged particles from the sun collide with the Earths atmosphere near the magnetic poles. These lights move in ribbons, arcs, and drifting curtains across the sky, appearing in colors that range from pale green and pink to deep violet and blue. Like the aurora itself, the shell changes constantly as the light moves across its surface. Dial Composition The shifting colors in this dial are created from the rim of Awabi abalone shell from Japan. Although the shell is tinted with purple and turquoise tones, the vivid flashes of color are natural characteristics of the material itself. The tinting simply brings forward the shells inherent depth and vibrancy. A clear 2mm stone marks the 12 oclock position like a distant point of light in the night sky. Awabi abalone, sometimes called sea snail, is considered endangered, so Celeste Watch Company uses only reclaimed waste shell.
