The front of this impressive watch reveals a light-lavender blush dial with an intricate center design and blued-steel diamond kite watch hands. The Illinois Watch Company initially produced this awe-inspiring pocket watch in Springfield, Illinois, in 1921 — the same year that the first Major League Baseball game was broadcast on the radio. On August 5, 1921, the Pittsburgh Pirates went head-to-head against the Philadelphia Phillies, and the Pittsburgh AM radio station KDKA broadcast the event with Harold Arlin as the games announcer. The Pirates beat the Phillies 8-5. Later that year, KDKA and the Newark radio station WJZ broadcast the 1921 World Series, when the New York Giants defeated Babe Ruth and the New York Yankees in the eighth game.
